Customer Reviews:
Nice Surprise September 1, 2010 Claudia Rodriguez I've had my Creative Zen Vision:M player for more than 7 years and really have no complaints about it except that it was starting to get a little old in terms of technology and the hard drive started clicking so that immediately sent alarm bells ringing, I knew it was only a matter of time. So I started looking at different players to see what I wanted. I went to look at Creative again to see what players they had available, and I found the Creative Zen x-fi2. In terms of specs it offered exactly what I look for in my player. I use my players for music and videos, everything else is really a bonus. If you want lots of different applications and multimedia bells and whistles this might not be for you. So I searched the Cnet and other websites to find reviews about the player. After reading some reviews I was a bit hesitant to buy the player because so many people had issues with the touch interface and the the software it comes with, etc. Well I started looking at other products.
I didn't want an Apple I-touch because of the proprietary software, i-tunes, and I was close to buying the Zune but again, it forces you to use their software too. I went back to Creative mainly because I like the fact that you can use Windows media player to sync or you can just click and drop the music into the player, much like a flash drive external device, something you can't do with the other players I was considering.(FYI: You don't have to use the Creative software that comes embedded in the player, you don't even have to install it) I decided to try the Creative player.....I've had it for about 2 weeks now and I love it! The sounds is fantastic, the design is nice and it is easy to use.
All the reviews about the touch screen not being sensitive I think miss the way that this touch screen is supposed to work. It is actually the reverse of most touch screen where only a slight touch is needed to activate the screen controls. The touch screen on the Creative Zen x-fi 2 works similar to having actual buttons, i.e. pressing as if there were real buttons is what makes it work the best. And it really is easy to use and navigate, I let someone who had never used Creative players before use the Zen x-fi 2 and he was able to figure everything out in a matter of minutes and he also didn't find the touch screen to be an issue, he was able to figure out that some pressure was needed to make it work. He commented that he actually liked that of the touchscreen. Hopefully this review helps with those that might have doubts about the touchscreen, it is really not an issue.
As far as the cons, right now the only issue I'm having is transferring video from my computer to the player. I think it's just a matter of making sure i have the correct file type. Also, here's a tip, if you're using Windows Media Player to sync the player, if you use an earlier version of the player, I used Windows Media Player 11, the play lists you saved on that player DO transfer to the player, however, if you have the latest player Windows Media Player 12, they don't. I'm not sure why.
One more thing, feel i should mention how light in weight this player is. It is actually very lightweight, it caught me by surprise. Not a bad thing but it takes some getting used to, then again the Zen Vision:M is pretty heavy compared to other players....
The ZEN of xFi2 August 9, 2010 Budsy I really like this player. It sounds great and has plenty of nice capabilities. I tried programming an app for it too, and it's easy to do if you know a little programming. The player is not perfect, however, but it gets close enough. (1) The Creative Centrale software is not great, especially the version that came with the player's set up. (2) The earphone jack is touchy. Contrary to intuition, you can't push it all the way in because you lose the stereo connection. (3) The earphone plug sticks out prominently from the player, and could be a point of damage if your not careful I think, because, if wiggled a little, it loses connection or part of the stereo signal. (4) It seems to only be available in black right now.
